Paris Saint-Germain hitman Edinson Cavani will become a free agent in 2020, meaning any club would be able to sign him on a potential cut-price deal in January.
The Uruguay striker, 32, has been excellent in European football, developing a reputation as one of the most prolific players in the game. Despite having an injury-hit 2018/19 campaign, he produced 18 goals and six assists in 21 Ligue 1 outings for PSG.
At 32, Edinson Cavani remains a huge threat to the opposition and a key part of the PSG setup. However, he has entered the final year of his contract.
Back in April, a report from Metro had claimed that Manchester United were interested in signing Cavani during the summer. While a move didn’t go through then, they must reignite their interest in the striker during the January transfer window.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign a striker in January. The Red Devils are light on options in the striker department, having sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan and let Alexis Sanchez move to the same club on loan. In recent weeks, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have suffered injuries, too.
While there is excitement about what teenage prodigy Mason Greenwood will go on to accomplish at Old Trafford, Solskjaer would not have wanted to be relying on the youngster at this stage in the campaign. It will be intriguing to see what kind of striker United do try to sign in the January transfer window but as things stand now, they should aim to get in an experienced striker.
That should make Edinson Cavani a perfect fit for the Red Devils. Needless to say, Cavani would sleepwalk into the United’s starting XI lacking any sort of a prolific striker. The Uruguayan has been prolific for almost a decade now and has shown no signs of letting up.
The 32-year-old can keep hold of the ball and knows his way to the goal very well. He can score all kinds of goals and is also opportunistic with his movements. Cavani is very strong in the air and a strong finisher in front of goal.
He is 32 but United do require experience in the attack and his presence can help young strikers like Rashford, Martial and Greenwood flourish at Old Trafford. The ex-Napoli star’s volumes of European experience and winning mentality will be an added bonus for United.
Whether United are willing to splash the cash for a 32-year-old striker remains to be seen, but Cavani definitely has the ingredients that would entice United in January.
