Despite 61.47 Win Percentage, Chelsea Trying To Sign This Italian Is Not The Right Move For The Club

Why Chelsea Should Stick With Antonio Conte And Forget About Carlo Ancelotti

The reigning Premier League champions haven’t exactly had the best start to their season and have barely looked convincing in their 6 wins so far. The Blues are currently at 4th place with 19 points in 10 games but are 9 points behind table-toppers Manchester City.

The Sun claims that Roman Abramovich isn’t happy with Antonio Conte this season and is considering replacing him with Carlo Ancelotti. Antonio Conte still has 20 months left on his contract but Chelsea’s chiefs are believed to be ready for a new manager.

Ancelotti was recently sacked by Bayern Munich after a string of disappointing results in the Bundesliga. The Italian manager had taken over from Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard moved to Manchester City at the start of the 2016/17 season.

Ancelotti guided Bayern Munich to two major trophies which included the Bundesliga title and the DFL-Supercup, but the 58-year-old could not guide them to Champions League glory after crashing out in the quarterfinals.

Despite Carlo Ancelotti’s impressive CV, roping him in is not exactly the best choice for the Blues. Ancelotti, having managed Chelsea FC in the past, will well and surely be aware of the treatment at Stamford Bridge by club’s owner, Roman Abramovich.

Carlo Ancelotti had an excellent start to his Chelsea career, having won the Premier League and the FA Cup in his first season in charge. But his success lasted very briefly as in the following season, he lost out on the Premier League title and was beaten twice, both in the top flight as well in the Champions League, by Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

Before the end of his second season, Roman Abramovich sacked the Italian from his job as head coach. However, he still has a good win percentage in the Premier League with 61.47 %.

Nevertheless, rehiring the Italian would not be a positive move from Chelsea as it would only disrupt the progress of the club. Antonio Conte is currently struggling with lack of depth in his squad and if Chelsea can help him bring some new players in January, Conte should have no problem in replicating last season’s success.

On the other hand, Ancelotti would take time to rebuild from the scratch and Chelsea could lose their current momentum in the Premier League. The Blues should just keep faith in the man who won them a Premier League title in his first crack at English football.
