According to The Sun, Chelsea have begun talks with breakout stars Tammy Abrahan and Fikayo Tomori over new long-term contracts to extend their stay at the Stamford Bridge.
The Sun understands that both the youngsters have accepted the notion of signing new deals at their boyhood club and it is now up to the Blues’ hierarchy and their agents to negotiate the terms.
Frank Lampard’s arrival as the manager this summer coupled with the transfer embargo imposed by FIFA have led to a radical alteration in the club’s stance towards the handling of their academy starlets and the likes of Abraham, Tomori and Mason Mount have been some of the biggest beneficiaries of the current situation.
Abraham, who had loan stints at Aston Villa, Bristol City and Swansea City prior to establishing himself as the club’s first-choice striker since the start of the ongoing campaign, has been the most impressive of the lot, with his tally of 7 goals in the Premier League making him the joint top-scorer alongside Sergio Aguero.
And Chelsea are now set to reward the 21-year-old with a bumper new deal to keep him at the club until at least 2024, with the report suggesting that the Blues are set to offer him a five-year deal worth £100,000-a-week.
The centre-forward has a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2022 but the Blues are probably aware of the kind of interest his blistering run of form might spark amongst some of the elites in the transfer market.
With that in mind, they are ready to move quickly to secure the future of one of their top homegrown talents following his successful transition from the loan army to the first-team.
Abraham, though, is not the only youngster who looks set to earn a new deal at Chelsea. Accompanying him in putting pen to paper will be Fikayo Tomori, who was one of the stars of the Derby County side managed by Lampard that reached the Championship playoff finals last season.
Chelsea’s vulnerability at the back has been one of the key takeaways from their mediocre start to the campaign, with the Blues failing to manage even a single clean sheet from their first five games in the Premier League.
Despite that, however, Tomori has been a notable bright spark and, while he hasn’t been an undisputed starter like Abraham, the 21-year-old’s talent and potential have been there for everyone to see.
As a matter of fact, Tomori has also impressed with his qualities outside of his own penalty area, with his 35-yard screamer against Wolves being a clear testament to his well-rounded attributes
The Canadian-born starlet has made a strong statement with his promising start that he is capable of doing a job for the Blues at the highest level and a long-term deal for him would definitely make perfect sense for the club moving forward.
With the fountain of youth finally beginning to flow at Chelsea after a long wait, the fans have already got a chance to relish the rise of some of the club’s top homegrown talents in the first-team.
They might be in for a bigger treat when the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James make their return from injuries.
