Why Celtic Must Sign Chelsea Starlet Tammy Abraham On Loan For Next Season

Tammy Abraham has had a very interesting season on loan at Swansea. He started well, impressing with his power and ability in the air but his inconsistency has led him to play much less of a part in the second half of the season and this inconsistency will worry Chelsea.

It is easy to highlight the 20-year-old’s abilities. In the Championship last season, he bagged himself 23 goals in 40 appearances and looked a class above in that league. Since returning to the Premier League, he only has 5 and will be disappointed that he does not have more.

Some would argue that Swansea have not given him the best opportunity. When he scored those goals in the Championship, he started consistently for Bristol City, whereas he has been limited to only 15 starts for Swansea this season. When he has started, he has 4 goals, when he has not, he has one.

Had he gone to a club that could have afforded him more amount of consistent football, then perhaps he would be pushing Chelsea’s starting line-up next season. Swansea now seems like a strange choice.

It is looking likely that Chelsea will continue to send the striker out on loan. He doesn’t seem quite ready for the Premier League but seems too good for the Championship. Therefore, Celtic seems like the perfect fit for him.

Brendan Rogers has vast experience and is continuing to deliver at Celtic and Tammy Abraham could learn a lot from him. He has experience of bringing youngsters through and giving them the opportunity when they deserve it.

He will also join up with some fantastic players at Celtic, with Scott Sinclair, Patrick Roberts, Oliver Ntcham all having had successful youth careers, playing regular first-team football now. They can guide him, share their experience and help him grow.

Celtic themselves need to buy another striker to work well with Moussa Dembele, especially because they need a big squad to play Champions League football, something that Abraham would definitely relish.

All in all, it seems like it’d be a great fit for both parties. Abraham would get to play in a slightly harder league and Celtic could benefit from an extra quality striker to bolster their ranks.
