According to a report in Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make a move for young Barcelona midfielder Carles Alena during the January transfer window.
Spurs, who have had a rough start to this season, are aiming to make additions to their squad in the next couple of windows to help manager Mauricio Pochettino. (h/t Sun)
And they have been taking a close look at Alena (h/t Sun), who is a Barcelona academy product now has been playing for the first-team. He has also represented Spain in all of the youth level.
Despite the fact that the 21-year-old has only played 45 minutes of league football so far this season, he has shown enough in the past to make us believe that he has potential to become a great player in due course of time.
Here’s why Spurs would be right to sign him in January:
With the knowledge that Tottenham could get rid of wantaway midfielder Christian Eriksen in January (h/t Sun), it is important that they find a replace to replace the Denmark international.
If the club manages to sign Carles Alena from Barcelona, then it won’t be a bad idea. The Spain U21 star is a central midfielder but has operated very well as an attacking midfielder by pulling the strings for the team.
In terms of his attributes, the 21-year-old possesses a good turn of pace to drive past players in the midfield with the ball. He is a fantastic dribbler of the ball and has a good range of passing. Furthermore, he does have a good shot in him in and around the opposition box.
Alena is a strong player off the ball as well. He presses well and reads the game astutely to make interceptions in the midfield.
If Tottenham do manage to sign Carles Alena in January, they could have Eriksen’s replacement for the long run.
