The fact that 35-year-old Glenn Murray is Brighton’s top scorer shows just how much trouble the club is in. Props to the former Crystal Palace striker for keeping himself fit and in-form well past his thirties, but the Seagulls need another option.
Murray is by no means a long-term solution and their other options have struggled to make an impact. Both Jurgen Locadia and Florian Andone have only managed to score five goals together, which is the same that Shane Duffy has managed.
Clearly, Brighton and manager Chris Hughton have an issue to solve. It’s not an issue that can be fixed so easily, however, with the likes of Locadia, Chuba Akpom and Sam Baldock all failing to make an impact.
That being said, Brighton should have a shortlist to replace Murray, as the 35-year-old won’t always be their saviour. One player they should look towards is Tottenham star Vincent Janssen.
The 25-year-old has struggled to play second fiddle to Harry Kane, after joining them in 2016. Since then, he’s made 40 appearances and is yet to play any football for the North London side this season. Not to mention, at £15 million, it makes him a rather valuable buy.
While he has struggled to make an impact for Tottenham, Janssen still remains a valuable striking option given his long list of talents. Similar to Glenn Murray in a lot of ways, the 25-year-old’s abilities on the ball and his hold-up play make him a fantastic option for any side. But it’s his movement in the final third that makes Janssen so dangerous.
The Dutchman is what’s called a poacher and he does some of his best work inside the box, as witnessed during his spell at AZ Alkmaar. It was there that Janssen rose into prominence, scoring 27 goals in his final season at the club. That prompted Tottenham to make a move but Kane’s phenomenal rise has made the Englishman an immovable object.
This pushed Janssen out of the team and made him a bench-warmer, eventually getting relegated to the reserves. However, given the state of Brighton’s team, the Seagulls cannot afford to be too picky.

Replacing Murray will be among the toughest things that Brighton will have to do, given just how much of a consistent goal-scorer he has been. Not only that, Murray’s work rate both on and off the ball is phenomenal but adding Vincent Janssen is the need of the hour.
Not only is Janssen similar to Murray but more so, the Tottenham striker needs to move on from his horrific spell in North London. It’s the perfect marriage and a move that Brighton will regret if they do not make.
