Bournemouth Opinion – Should Cherries beat Leicester for McGinn?

According to a report in Birmingham Mail, new Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.

The ex-Celtic boss wanted the player at Parkhead last summer, but the 24-year-old decided to play for the Villans. Now with Rodgers back in the Premier League, he is hoping to tempt McGinn with a move to top-flight football (h/t Daily Mirror).

As per another report in Birmingham Mail, it is believed that the Hoops not being able to complete the transfer of the Scotsman prompted the former Liverpool manager to leave them with the business part of the season still to be played.

However, here’s why Bournemouth should beat the Foxes in their attempt to sign John McGinn:

Bournemouth need more quality in midfield

As of now, Bournemouth have four options in the midfield – Lewis Cook, Dan Gosling, Jefferson Lerma and Andrew Surman. But since the long-term injury to the former, the Cherries haven’t been at their best in the central areas of the field.

Now, with Cook expected to be back by the start of next season at the earliest, it makes sense from the Cherries’ point of view that they bring in another midfielder in the summer transfer window.

John McGinn could be an ideal addition to Eddie Howe’s team. The 24-year-old can play in a midfield pivot in the 4-4-2 formation, or can ply his trade as one of the wide midfielders in the 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 system.

He is a typically sharp player who presses well to win back possession and always looks to play the forward pass and keep the team moving in the right direction. The Aston Villa man’s commitment to the cause is right up there.

Conclusion

So with Bournemouth probably needing another Lewis Cook-type midfielder to remain consistent in the Premier League, they should beat Leicester to sign John McGinn.
