Brighton have to sign this versatile 22-year-old if they are to show some improvement next season

Brighton Opinion: Should Brighton make a move for Youssef Aït Bennasser?

At the moment, Brighton are in good shape, despite being only five points above the relegation zone. The Seagulls have struggled, but manager Chris Hughton has still managed to scrap out a win every now and then.

That has proven to be a useful asset for the club this season, but they’ll need more if they are to survive next season. The summer window will be crucial and one area that the Seagulls do need to look towards is the midfield.

While Pascal Gross has returned from his ankle injury, the German has struggled to make an impact despite his good performances last season. Add that to Yves Bissouma and Beram Kayal’s issues with form, it simply shows why Brighton need to make a midfield signing in the summer window.

One player that should be on their target list is Youssef Aït Bennasser. The Monaco star is currently on loan with Saint Etienne until the end of the season. The 22-year-old is a talented star and he is close to perfect for Brighton.

While his preffered position is as a central midfielder, the Moroccan can play in a deeper role and excels there as well. A versatile and physical presence, Aït Bennasser has shown his talent playing as a right-back and as a centre-back at the AFCON 2017.

His defensive solidity along with his tenacity and technique as a central midfielder means that the 22-year-old could take to the Premier League brilliantly.

But along with his defensive nuance, Youssef Aït Bennasser also has an incredible passing range and is capable of finding teammates from close to anywhere.

For Brighton, these are key skills that their current crop of midfielders all lack, barring Pascal Gross.

Conclusion

Adding Youssef Aït Bennasser, will allow Gross to do what he does best once again. With a transfer fee of around £9million (Express), it allows the club to focus most of their budget on other areas to improve.

This should include a striker, with Glenn Murray edging towards the end of his career and Jurgen Locadia struggling to find the net.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
