Aston Villa would suffer a lot if Chelsea recall Tammy Abraham from his loan spell – agreed?

As per the report in Birmingham Mail, Premier League giants Chelsea are considering a bid to recall their on-loan striker Tammy Abraham from Championship club Aston Villa. With the tough festive fixture list around the corner, the Blues are thinking of getting the player back during the winter window.

Chelsea have made a great start to their life under Maurizio Sarri, lying third in the league table, seven points behind leaders Manchester City. However, the important stat is that they are one point ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham, which means that a tpp-4 spot is far from guaranteed.

However, the goals haven’t come thick and fast from either of their strikers. Olivier Giroud has netted only one, while Alvaro Morata has 5 in 13 appearances. Hence, it is understandable from the Blues’ viewpoint that they could do with Abraham in the squad for the second part of the season.

But here’s why Aston Villa would struggle if this happens:

Abraham’s goals key to promotion bid

Since the arrival of Dean Smith, Villa have gained form and momentum leading up to the festive period of games. They just smashed fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough 3-0 away from home to signal their intentions of making a bid to play Premier League football next season.

They are now eighth in the table, with 31 points, just three behind sixth-placed Sheffield United. The key to all of this resurgence is the growing confidence of the forward line which is creating and scoring goals in abundance. Tammy Abraham leads that line and has been in terrific form.

Dipping into the stats, the 21-year-old has netted 11 goals in 14 games and supplied one assist. That amounts to 0.85 goal contribution per game on an average, something which the loanee from Chelsea would be proud of.

If Abraham goes back to Stamford Bridge in January, Villa do not possess much quality to replace him in January. Therefore, Aston Villa should pray that Chelsea do not recall the youngster from his loan spell.

It will help the team and the manager to build a team around the Englishman as they push for a top-flight promotion. From the player’s perspective, there is no point in going to Chelsea midway through the season.
