Why Aston Villa signing this Liverpool outcast would be a brilliant move for all parties involved

Why Aston Villa should sign Dominic Solanke in January

Aston Villa have made a poor start to the season in the Championship. They are 17th in the table with 18 points, seven points off the playoff spot and 11 points behind leaders Sheffield United. The difference in points clearly shows what is missing for Villa.

The Birmingham club changed the manager and hired former Brentford boss Dean Smith. But the problem of inconsistency is still nagging. There are games where they score goals but can’t close it out defensively, and there are games which are tight and they struggle to score even one goal.

The best example is last Friday’s 1-0 defeat at QPR, where Smith’s men had enough chances to score but they couldn’t. Hence, to think that they need a ruthless striker up front is not something very tough to vocalise.

They should probably keep close tabs on Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke and sign him in the January transfer window. Here’s why:

Solanke’s lack of playing time

As per the Daily Mail, England U21 coach Aidy Boothroyd expressed his concerns regarding Dominic Solanke’s lack of game time at Liverpool.

Dominic Solanke

The 21-year-old made 27 appearances last season, but 21 of them were short cameos from the bench. He hasn’t even made the bench once this campaign.

Therefore, it is pretty clear that the young Englishman requires game time under his belt to really show his quality. Aston Villa have Tammy Abraham, but he is on loan from Chelsea. The club needs someone of great propensity to lead the line on a regular basis and bang in the goals to lift them up the table.

Solanke can be that man if the Birmingham club initiate a deal this winter. The youngster is far from receiving first-team football at Liverpool because Daniel Sturridge is back fit and is supporting the Reds’ famed front three. Hence, the youngster should look for a way out and enhance his prominence elsewhere.

Aston Villa is historically a big club, who are going through a rough patch. The striker can join them, play more games and score goals to regain his confidence. If he does that for a season or two, his eventual big club move could be on once again.

Verdict

Dominic Solanke is still 21 and has time on his side to become a great striker. Leaving Liverpool could just be the right option for him.

Going to the Championship and scoring goals for fun would automatically attract the interest of some of the big boys because he has the qualities of a top striker.

Villa would benefit by getting him in January before any other potential suitor comes calling.
