After making a superb start to their Premier League campaign, Wolverhampton Wanderers are now on the back of two defeats in the Premier League. The Wolves were beaten by a rigid Brighton and Hove Albion side in the league this weekend but Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have otherwise made a strong start to their season.
The newcomers took the Premier League by storm with their expansive and disciplined style of football under the manager but over the last two weeks, the club have struggled to score goals. Mexican striker Raul Jimenez made a strong start to his season with 2 goals and 3 assists in 10 appearances but he has since failed to provide much of a threat. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)
The Mexican was signed on a season-long loan deal from Benfica and will return to the Portuguese club at the end of the campaign. This means the Wolves are definitely going to need a new striker in their ranks and one man Nuno Espirito Santo has to take a look at is Brentford star Neal Maupay.
Since making the move to the club last year, the Frenchman has played a pivotal role in the club’s surge to the top this season. He has scored a whopping 11 goals and provided 4 assists in 13 league appearances this season. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)
The 22-year-old French striker currently tops the goal-scoring charts and has been the driving force behind Brentford’s form this season. He has looked energetic and absolutely devastating everytime he gets into the box. The Frenchman possesses an impressive pace and is very clinical in front of the goal.
He has averaged 3.5 shots per game this season and has always been a menace for goalkeepers. The striker is also very good with his runs behind the defence. He also possesses strong awareness on and off the ball.
Maupay will definitely flourish playing alongside the likes of Diogo Jota, Helder Costa and Adama Traore. He seems to link up well with his current teammates as well and will definitely thrive playing in Nuno Espirito Santo’s 4-2-3-1 formation.
With 3 attacking midfielders sitting behind him, Maupay should receive a number of chances in the final third given his ability to get into the right positions.

Wolves should definitely make a move for Neal Maupay in January. The club are currently on the up and will need more reinforcements in order to establish themselves as a Premier League club. Failing to do so would see the Wolves short of striker options and that could cost them a lot.
