According to FcInterNews (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United are lining up a swoop for Barcelona ace Arturo Vidal.
Vidal is considered to be on the fringes of Ernesto Valverde’s team in Barcelona and has started only in 4 games this season. The report also suggests that Vidal has sparked speculations over his future, hinting he may look for an exit if he doesn’t feel important.
The former Juventus man has had an illustrious career after playing for top teams in Germany and Italy. He moved to Barcelona in 2018 and though he has not played enough games, he has been a vital player for the La Liga giants, coming off the bench.
In 10 La Liga games this season, the midfielder has scored 4 times, including the winner crucial winner against CD Leganes a week back.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are inconsistent in their performances. After starting the season poorly, they seemed to take control when the season progressed but have again lost their way after a 3-match winless streak.
United have not found the right balance in midfield after the injuries to Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, and Nemanja Matic, who seems to have slowed down recently. Andreas Pereira and Fred have been starting regularly for a while.
While Fred seems to be getting better steadily, Pereira has lacked the intensity and has been dispossessed quite often. His inexperience has come to the fore but due to a lack of midfield options, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started him often.
The Red Devils have drawn their last two League games despite playing well and it is clear that at the end of the game the midfield doesn’t seem to be confident. This is where Arturo Vidal would be perfect for Manchester United, controlling the tempo of their game.
The Chilean has proved to be a match-winner on many occasions for both Juventus and Bayern Munich. He has also been vital for his national team, which resulted in Chile winning two Copa America trophies on the trot.
Predominantly a central midfielder, Vidal has shown great intent while deployed in a defensive and attacking midfield role. He is known for his strong challenges on the pitch and can keep out the opponents with ease. While moving forward, he could be a threat as he has the knack of scoring from long range.
Vidal is a player with a lot of talent and can surely balance United’s game at any point. Alongside youngsters McTominay, Fred and Pereira, the Chilean would be able to guide them with his immense experience.
At the moment, United need a player like Vidal to take charge when things heat up on the pitch. He may not have many years to offer but with only youngsters in the team, Vidal’s presence in the middle would allow them to move forward freely.
Therefore, to set things better by the end of the season, United have to go all out for Vidal in January by taking advantage of his situation in Barcelona. With just £12.8m being the asking price for Vidal, United must move ahead of Inter Milan to secure his services.
