Forget it Emery – Arsenal would be wise to ignore this highly-rated Brazilian prospect despite obvious quality

Arsenal opinion: Emery must avoid signing Gabriel Martinelli

Football.London has reported that Arsenal have re-entered the race for Brazilian starlet Gabriel Martinelli.

A highly-rated prospect, the young Brazilian has been linked with moves to Barcelona and even Manchester United over the last few weeks (Mirror). Arsenal were interested at the very start, but nothing materialised and things remained the same.

However, now with Unai Emery looking for new players, the club believes that the Brazilian forward could be the man to help Arsenal move forward. An explosive player, the young forward has been in exceptional form for Ituano.

Furthermore, the 18-year-old has incredible pace, is a clinical finisher and more importantly, has a calm head in front of goal. Despite all that, the move for Arsenal will be detrimental to both sides despite the fact that the club needs another winger.

At the moment, Unai Emery has had to depend on both Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with the two doing relatively well.

However, with the club chasing a Champions League spot and potentially looking to eventually challenge for the Premier League title, they cannot afford to make a move for someone untested.

While there is no doubting the talent that young Gabriel Martinelli has at his disposal, Arsenal need a proven star to move forward. Martinelli is far from that despite his natural borne abilities and it is a doubt if he can make it in the Premier League, which is physical.

The English top-tier spits out more players than it accepts. That has been witnessed with the likes of Andriy Shevchenko, Wellington Silva, Denilson and a few others, all struggling to make an impact.

There were signs of brilliance when they first arrived but they failed to adapt to a more physically dominant and very intense league.

At this stage, in their transition period, that is something Arsenal cannot undergo and as mentioned, the club need players who can come in and immediately make an impact.

That is something Gabriel Martinelli cannot do or rather may not be able to do.

Conclusion

Arsenal are in transition and cannot afford to add players who have no Premier League experience to their name.

Instead, the club have to look at players who can make a big impact like Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Lucas Torriera have done this season.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
