The Metro suggests that Arsenal are planning a raid on Norwich City for right-back Max Aarons.
The 20-year-old full-back, who is valued at around £30m, is among Gunners new boss Arteta’s wishlist for the January transfer window amidst concerns regarding Hector Bellerin’s form.
Arsenal’s first-choice right-back Bellerin has looked a completely different person since returning from the anterior cruciate ligament injury which he sustained in January last year.
After being on the sidelines for almost ten months, Bellerin recently made a comeback last September but is now once again out with a hamstring problem.
The Spaniard has played just 3 matches this season and has looked a mere shadow of his past, struggling for form.
However, Arsenal are not the only ones interested in last season’s EFL Young Player of the Year, with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham having already contacted the youngster.
The quick and tireless Aarons, meanwhile, has been deemed as an excellent fit at Arsenal and is seen as an ideal player who will suit Arteta’s playing style, the report added.
Aarons has been a regular under the Daniel Farke, featuring in 19 of their 21 league games so far and has grown into an integral part of the Canaries squad despite his young age.
However, his Norwich side are not in the best of places right now, with the side most likely facing relegation. They are now languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table and are still seven points off safety.
Having excelled in the Championship last season, helping Norwich gain promotion to the top-flight, Aarons might be eager to stay at the highest level, which may force Norwich to cash in on the youngster.
Arteta, on the other hand, is in need of some defensive reinforcements, with Arsenal struggling at the back. They have conceded 30 goals in the league – 2 more than what they have scored this season, raising serious concerns regarding the side’s shaky defence.
Also, Arteta has been at the receiving end of an injury crisis which has seen most of the Gunners defenders spend more time warming the benches rather than playing.
Their second-choice right-back, Calum Chambers, has been the most recent to join the list of injured players, having injured his anterior cruciate ligament in the game against Chelsea.
That said, it makes perfect sense as to why Arteta is interested in the young Aarons, who could also be a good future investment for them.
With the right-back conundrum troubling Arsenal at the moment, they definitely need someone who could perform on a regular basis and help them climb up the ladder.
Moreover, Arsenal’s defence has looked completely lacklustre this season and bringing in someone young and energetic like Aarons would be of immense help to the side considering their dull show so far this season.
Hence, Arsenal should do everything in their power to land the talented young full-back.
