Why Arsenal should beat others to the signature of Chris Ojeme

According to claims from All Nigeria Soccer (h/t MSN), Arsenal are among a host of Premier League clubs interested in securing the services of Millwall prodigy Chris Ojeme, who is yet to make his senior professional bow for the Lions.

Premier League rivals Man City, Man United, Liverpool and West Ham are all keeping close tabs on the 14-year-old but Arsenal are in pole position to snap him up (All Nigeria Soccer h/t MSN).

Born in 2005, Chris Ojeme is still not old enough to sign a professional contract with Millwall.

Ojeme has the potential to go on and ply his trade at the highest level in the years to come. The Lions could find themselves powerless in their efforts to hold on to him if big clubs come knocking on the door, given that the starlet is yet to pen professional terms.

Man City signed winger Samuel Edozie from Millwall in the summer and Ojeme could be next in the queue to earn a move to the top-flight.

To put things into perspective, there is absolutely no guarantee regarding the development of a player aged just 14 but if he goes on to fulfil his potential in North London, Arsenal would reap the benefits.

Ojeme, who is still in the rudiments of his formative years as a footballer, has plenty of stages left in his development curve before he starts to make strides towards evolving into a finished article.

Unai Emery’s presence has allowed several academy prospects like Emile Smith-Rowe, Joe Willock, Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka work wonders for the first-team.

To that end, Arsenal need to ensure that there are enough quality players coming from the club’s production line and Chris Ojeme would be yet another fantastic addition to the existing pool of burgeoning young talents at the Emirates.

Verdict

Arsenal have a great history of polishing up and coming prospects and there is every chance that Ojeme could possibly emulate the success of some of his predecessors.

All in all, Arsenal completing a move for Chris Ojeme would definitely be a gamble, given that he is only 14. However, this looks like a gamble worth taking.
