Leicester City would get closer to finding a backup for Ben Chilwell by signing this 26-year-old ace for £50m

Why Alex Telles would be a good signing for Leicester City

According to a report from the Metro, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has instructed scouts to find a replacement for Ben Chilwell as the club appears increasingly resigned to lose him this summer.

Both Manchester City and Chelsea are plotting moves for Ben Chilwell, who has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

Manchester City looked at the England international over the summer and are thought to be interested in reigniting their interest given Benjamin Mendy’s injury struggles since arriving at the Etihad, while Frank Lampard views him as a long-term solution at left-back for Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers is determined to retain Chilwell’s services but knows it’ll be difficult to keep hold of him if the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City come calling. The report adds Leicester will demand at least £50 million for the 22-year-old, who has been capped eight times by his country.

With that in mind, Leicester should reignite their interest in FC Porto star Alex Telles when the transfer window reopens.

Alex Telles, 26, who was scouted by Leicester in August, is regarded as one of the best attacking left-backs in the continent. The Brazilian has been a consistent performer for Porto ever since joining from Turkish giants Galatasaray in 2016. He enjoyed a productive 2018/19 campaign, scoring four goals and assisting eight in 33 Liga NOS appearances.

An attacking left-back, Telles is adept at creating chances as well as scoring goals. He is blessed with sublime technical ability, pace, power and aggression. The 26-year-old boasts great energy allowing him to bomb up and down the left flank adequately over the course of a 90-minute match.

The Brazil international is a strong physical full-back, who is capable of driving forward with the ball and progressing a team from their defensive third into the attacking third quickly.

The former Galatasaray man is also a proven penalty and set-piece expert. While Telles excels going forward, he is no slouch defensively.

In fact, he is a competent defender that never hesitates to stick his foot out to stop his opponent from advancing. Telles’ intelligent positioning gives him the best platform to breakdown opposition attacks, whilst helping his team in counter-attacks.

With Ricardo Pereira and Telles on opposite sides of the defence, the Foxes could potentially have two tearing full-backs that could make their attack more potent.

Verdict

Telles would be an ideal replacement for Chilwell if he leaves and thus, Leicester shouldn’t hesitate to make a move for the Brazilian defender in January itself.
