Chelsea starlet Mason Mount has been earning a lot of appreciation for his spectacular work at Vitesse Arnhem this season. Currently serving a loan for the side, Mount rose to greater prominence after his stellar display against Lazio and the Blues are considering a move to call him back for the rest of the season. The teenage midfield sensation has already broken a record in the Europa League, establishing himself as the only 18-year-old to have created 8 chances in a single game.

History

Born in 1999 in Portsmouth, England, Mount’s foray into football began at a very young age. By the age of 4, he was playing in local leagues and he even spent one day a week training for the likes of Portsmouth, Southampton and Chelsea. It was at the age of 6 that Mount joined the Blues on a regular basis. He rose through the ranks and made his U18 debut in the 2013–14 campaign. He soon emerged as one of the best talents in the squad, having amassed 10 goals in 39 appearances. His current contract runs until 2021 with Chelsea and he could do wonders for them right now.

It was earlier in July this year that he was loaned out to Vitesse and there has been no looking back for him ever since. Arguably, his most stunning performance for the club came in a recent match against Lazio and the player has attracted quite a lot of attention as a result.

Playing Style

An attacking midfielder by trade, Mount is adept at making key passes to unlock chances against the toughest of opponents. He is strong at taking set-pieces while boasting of strength during direct free-kicks. Seemingly harbouring a penchant for short passes, Mount is a bit weak in the air but he does have a tendency to get fouled often. The player also needs to work on his passing but he has a long way to go in the future and these are all areas which he can improve.
