Chelsea are reportedly set to revive their interest in Caen starlet Yann Karamoh by the end of the season. The same report also goes on to state that they will face competition from Barcelona for the 19-year-old. Estimated to be valued at about £25million, both clubs are understood to be keen on going head-to-head to sign him in the summer. Karamoh is currently serving a loan spell with Inter Milan, where he primarily plays as a right-winger.
While Karamoh does seem like an interesting target, will he be worth the money? Let’s take a closer look at the teenager’s profile.
Born in 1998 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Karamoh embarked on his football career as an 8-year-old when he joined Racing Colombes 92. He spent the next 5 years at the club as he focused on learning the ropes and building a strong foundation for his skills. His prolific displays attracted attention from Caen and the French club eventually signed him in 2011.
He steadily rose through the ranks and his hard work was rewarded with a professional contract in 2015. From there on, he started making sporadic appearances for the club but due to a significant lack of game time, Karamoh was loaned out to Inter Milan last September.
His most notable performance for Inter till date is when he scored a goal in their recent match against Bologna, which helped them seal a 2-1 win. As far as his international career is concerned, Karamoh has appeared across all levels for France – right from the U16 to U21.
Karamoh is an out-and-out attacker and he is blessed with great instincts, quick feet and a good understanding of the game. He likes to play short passes to maintain fluidity on the field and is quite adept at dribbling as well as crossing. Karamoh’s passing accuracy is quite impressive as well but there are certain areas where the player has to improve. For example, his finishing skills need a lot of sharpening and he is quite weak at holding on to the ball as well.
With interest stemming from Chelsea and Barcelona, the player will undoubtedly be tempted to make a move. Regardless of where he decides to go, Karamoh has a bright future ahead of him. If he focuses on developing and honing his skills as a player, he has the potential to become a great footballer in the near future and joining either Chelsea or Barcelona would provide him with the right platform to do just that.
