Who Is This Spartak Moscow Star That Tottenham Are Scouting? Everything You Need To Know

Share

Tottenham had a brilliant last season but couldn’t push on during the final leg, which resulted in them falling way behind Leicester City and even finishing below their arch rivals Arsenal. Mauricio Pochettino  must utilize this summer to reinforce properly in order to launch a proper title challenge next season, especially given the fact that all the other big club have already started making their summer purchases.  On top of Pochettino list is a striker, who can cover for Harry Kane and add those goals which could turn draws into wins, a big problem faced by Spurs last season. They should also be looking for wide player who can add pace down the wings and a possible centre half, if the right opportunity comes up.

Recent reports suggest that the Spurs boss is looking to sign Quincy Promes from Spartak Moscow after negotiations with his club stalled regarding a new contract. The Dutch international burst onto the seen with Go Ahead Eagles during his season-long loan spell from Twente in the 2012-13 season scoring 17 goals. The 24-year-old followed that up with another 11 goals for his parent club Twente next season before getting his big move to Russia with Spartak Moscow in the summer of 2014.

Last year Tottenham used Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen on the wings, however with all the quality they add to the team, the duo aren’t that great when it comes to scoring goals, something which the Dutch player specializes in, given his excellent goal scoring abilities. Though Tottenham didn’t struggle much due to the absence of a top quality winger last season, there’s no question that the club is missing a player in the mould of Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend.

The pacey winger has been excellent in Russia, having smashed in 31 goals from 61 games for the Russian giants so far and also setting up 13 assists. He can bring width to this Tottenham team, something even which the quartet of full-backs couldn’t do much last season. Promes usually sets up on the right hand side, from where he can cut inside on his preferred right foot at will and open teams up with his superb passing range. He will provide Tottenham with that plan B, which they seemed to lack last season against stronger defensive units.

Promes has everything that a winger should have – pace, dribbling skills and solid technique. With European commitments next season, Spurs need depth in their squad to avoid player burnout, a problem which Harry Kane is already facing with the England team at the Euros. The Spartak Moscow player might not start every game but will give Pochettino an option of a different playing style, if things aren’t working out for the North London team on the pitch. If he does join Tottenham this summer, he can dislodge Lallema from the starting XI and make that right winger position his own.
