This should be a normal routine for Arsenal fans as they often see the club getting linked with big stars and then they end up signing a relative nobody and this is happening once again. The Gunners have been linked with a move for Wissam Ben Yedder, the 25-year-old French footballer who plays for Toulouse.
The French attacker seems set for a move away from Ligue 1 and even if it isn’t to the Gunners but as we all know, have more often than not signed players who aren’t that well-known and we look at just what Arsene Wenger might have seen in the Frenchman.
The one thing that Arsenal have been looking for is a striker who can score goals on a regular basis. Ben Yedder might not be known to many but he has scored a number of goals for the French side and scored 23 goals in 41 games in all competitions last season.
In fact, the 25-year-old has scored in double digits for the last four seasons and has been one of the most consistent players for Toulouse since signing for them in 2010. Ben Yedder started his career in football at the age of 10 but has been on an incredible growth ever since.
He might not be the tallest striker in the world but that should not take anything away from his ability in front of goal. Ben Yedder can play either as the central striker or just behind the main striker as well, which should give Arsenal a few options as to how to use him this season.
He is also known for his passing ability and that he can find the right person with the right pass, which again would be extremely important for Arsenal if they are thinking of replacing Olivier Giroud in the near future.
There are a few issues with Ben Yedder though, even though he is 25 at the moment, he is not that great when it comes to offside awareness and more often than not he will be caught on the wrong side of the defence, something that people might remember Olivier Giroud doing on a regular basis.
He isn’t the greatest at tracking back either and isn’t known for winning headers as well, so there is one area where Giroud actually beats the current Toulouse striker. Arsenal have needed to bring in some sort of option in place of the ineffective and injured Danny Welbeck and Ben Yedder could well be the man who does that.
The 25-year-old still has a lot of work to do on his gameplay but his finishing and passing are just a couple of points that Gunner fans should keep an eye out for if they do sign him.
