Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola seems to be hitting the right notes and he might be onto another young player who could turn into the next big thing in South American football. Marlos Moreno, a Colombian who plays for Atletico Nacional in the Colombian league.
There are rumours that City are set to close a deal for the 19-year-old and he is set to move on loan to Deportivo La Coruna but what is the youngster all about and why is Pep so crazy about signing him?
Marlos was born in Medellin and signed for Atletico Nacional’s youth team in 2014 at the age of 14. He made his debut for the side in 2014 by coming on as a second half substitute in a Copa Colombia game.
The youngster also notched up a record for his team when he scored the fastest goal in the club’s history in 2015. Moreno is someone who can play anywhere in the attacking line and can play on either side of the wing as well.
The 19-year-old is a right footed player and when he plays out wide left, he likes to cut in, like most wingers these days do or if he is played on the right, he can stick to the by-line and take defenders on.
His directness could be a great feature for Manchester City in the coming years. Another great asset for the 19-year-old is his burst of pace which helps him blow past the opposition, this is certainly a requirement in the modern age of football and a pacey, tricky winger is one of the best weapons to have for any team.
Moreno also had a nifty bag of tricks which should help him out in the Premier League but he is known to use too many tricks at ill opportune moments, which could lead him to a bit of rough treatment, we all know how Cristiano Ronaldo had to deal with that during his formative years at Manchester United.
The 19-year-old is still young and needs to hone his skills, he might have the skills and the pace to trouble defences but that seems to have gotten to his head in a few instances. The Colombian might be a little too selfish in attach and that would not work well with Pep Guardiola, who always puts the team before the individual.
Marlos Moreno seems to have all that is needed to succeed in the world of the Premier League and if he can bag a lot of experience under Pep in the latter stages of his expected stint at Manchester City, he too could become another star that turns world class under the tutelage of the incredible Spanish manager.
