Scout Report – Yann Karamoh

Southampton managed to find decent consistency last season as they finished in the top half of the table yet again. They have already replaced their previous manager Claude Puel with Mauricio Pellegrino and are now looking to make some quality additions to their first team next season. One player extensively linked with a move to the St. Mary’s recently is Yann Karamoh.

According to several reports, the Saints are ready to meet his valuation of £8.75m and are ready to beat Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal to his signature this summer. But who is Karamoh and what will he add to the squads in England? Here is a scout report of the exciting youngster.

Born and brought up in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Karamoh started his footballing career as an eight-year-old with Racing Colombes 92, where he spent five long years before moving to France and joining the academy at Caen.

Since then, Karamoh has been at the club, growing through the ranks at the club. He made it into the first team of the junior side in 2015 and just a year later, he was promoted to the senior side and made 35 first team appearances in Ligue1 last season.

Capable of playing as a lone striker as well, Karamoh is a genuine winger who loves to dribble past his opponents with great ease. He can create chances consistently in the final third while his ability to cut in from the flank makes him that much more dangerous.

He is confident and is never wasteful of possession and at just 18, is a genuine superstar of the future. He still needs to work on his strength and ability in the air, but he is a player who will fit into the Premier League quite well.

With enough exposure at the highest level, he is ready for first-team action in one of the toughest leagues in world football. Playing for Southampton with minimal pressure on his shoulders could be the best thing for him in his career.

He scored 5 goals and 4 assists in 36 games in all competitions, in what was his first season in the top flight of French football. He has also made a couple of appearances for French U21 national side and if he can impress Pellegrino in his first season at the St. Mary’s, he may be able to establish himself in the first team, giving himself the perfect base to launch an exciting career.
