Times have been tough for Inter Milan, the once great Italian club has been labouring in Serie A, gone are the days when they won the Scudetto with relative ease and now they struggle just to ensure European qualification. They might not be having a good season but one player has been catching the eye of other European clubs.
Mateo Kovacic has been excellent for Inter Milan over the past couple of seasons, he plays mostly as an attacker and has been the one golden light from a rather troubled season and as more and more clubs target him and try to make a move for him, it will only be a matter of time before the player moves away from Inter to a club which might actually win something in the future.
Kovacic started his footballing career for Dinamo Zagreb when he was just 16 years old, he won a couple of titles with the Croatian club before he made the move to join Inter Milan in 2013. He even was in the Croatian side which rather failed miserably in the 2014 World cup in Brazil and he did make the starting XI for all the 3 group games for the Croatian side.
The 20 year old mostly plays as a central attacker and has been touted as the next big number 10 to play for Croatia. He loves to attack but he can also play on either wing, if that is a requirement. He however, has been playing as a deep lying playmaker for Inter Milan which just shows his versatility and adaptability to change his game when needed.
He also has a great range of passing and often drops back from his more advanced position to pick up the ball and run at the defence to give them problems. He can link up with other players and that is a problem thanks to his touch and even his movement, in the attacking third there really is nothing that Mateo Kovacic cannot do.
If there is a criticism in his game, it is that he does not defend as much as you would want but then again if he is playing so high up the field he is not expected to defend so much. The other issues with his game is that he does not take a shot on goal, even if he gets into a good position, he tries to play a team mate through, he needs to work on his shooting also.
He still has a bright future ahead of him, if he does stay at Inter or moves on, as long as he plays in the right team, he will become better.
