Reports are emerging that Brighton are in talks with Lille over a possible deal to sign Mali midfielder Yves Bissouma. The Seagulls need to add strength and quality in their central midfield department to perform next season, and Bissouma is potentially seen as the perfect fit.
The French club is understood to have put a price tag of about £15m on the player. The 21-year-old is a viable box-to-box option with whom manager Chris Hughton can build his team’s spine on.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Brighton target:
Bissouma is more of an attack-minded central midfielder with a fabulous awareness of the game to track back when required. In possession, he can turn and change his body position to swivel past defenders in a flash. The 21-year-old won 42 of the 58 take-on/dribbles (2.3 per game) in the league last season.
The Malian fits a high tempo game, where he can utilise his impressive turn of pace on the counter and simultaneously make a quick recovery runs when caught in possession. His incisive passing from the central areas makes him dependable as his success rate is 85% in the league.
The added advantage which Bissouma has is his height and robust physique, which will enable him to dominate games in a corporeal league like the English top-flight. So overall, he can adjust to what is required at Brighton.
In Hughton’s 4-4-1-1 system, the 21-year-old can be deployed as one of the central midfielders. However, the feasible option would be the manager changing his system to 4-3-3 and playing Bissouma as one of the number 8s, with a license to move forward.
Brighton probably need someone who is athletic and can cover both boxes during the game to support all areas. In Bissouma, they can get a player who is inept in running and covering the ground to aid the team overall.

For the player as well, it will be an opportunity to come and perform in a league which is followed by the whole world, and enhance his reputation. He has the attributes to become something special in the upcoming years.
