What Will Be The Fate Of This Manchester United Star In The Up Coming EUROS?

England’s 23-man squad for Euro 2016 did have a few surprises, one of them was Marcus Rashford making the cut to travel to France. The 18-year-old Manchester United forward has had an incredible season for the Red Devils, even though he only played 18 games all season.

Roy Hodgson decided to take the youngster with the rest of the team and the big question on everyone’s lips is if the 18-year-old would start for England in the Euros. Rashford might have scored eight goals all season for the Red Devils, but that should not mean that he gets an automatic berth in the team.

Looking at the talent that England have in their striking department, even with Rashford’s youth and exuberance, the Manchester United star barely has a chance of making it to the XI. Harry Kane from Tottenham has to be the number one choice simply because of the number of goals he scored for Spurs and the fact that based on form, he is the best striker in England.

Even if Roy does decide to play two strikers for England, which he normally does not go, the other person to partner the Tottenham striker would be Jamie Vardy, who led Leicester City to the Premier League title.

Vardy’s pace and work rate would certainly complement that of Kane’s and well, they are the best that England have in that region. Looking at another striker in the team, Daniel Sturridge still made it into the team despite picking up more injuries than actually scoring goals for Liverpool this season.

Sturridge might be the best natural finisher in the English team, but that does not mean he will get a starting place in France as his injury record would mean he has to be wrapped in cotton and only used when it is really a requirement for the national side in this tournament.

A history of taking youngsters

One thing that does remind us of this decision to take Rashford is that England have a history of taking young players and giving them the experience of going to a big tournament. England did this a number of years ago with Theo Walcott but barely used the Arsenal and and it seems they are doing something similar this time around as well.

Rashford might be perfect for the future and this experience will certainly help him around and also the team. Who knows, he could turn out to be the Michael Owen of 1998, but in all fairness, he shouldn’t start, he just is not ready yet and should just enjoy the ride to France.
