Match Report: Tottenham 0-0 Swansea City

After their impressive 3-1 win against Dortmund in the Champions League earlier this week, Tottenham could not replicate the same success in the Premier League as they were held for a 0-0 stalemate against Swansea City at the Wembley.

Pochettino’s side just couldn’t find a way past the Swansea defence despite constant efforts at the opposition’s goal. Even the in-form Harry Kane came home with empty pockets as he only managed to hit the crossbar.

This was the first time in 30 games that Spurs failed to score a goal at home. Swansea City were exceptional defensively and kept out a goal-hungry Spurs side from taking the lead in the game. Tottenham were quite lacklustre in the attack – they could not even manage a single shot on target in the entirety of the game.

But last week’s 1-0 defeat at the hand’s of Newcastle United seems to have provoked a response from Paul Clement’s side as they completely frustrated the London club. Swansea’s Lukasz Fabianski was in fine form as he stood resolute in goal. He saved multiple shots from Son Heung-min and Harry Kane who looked determined to score for their side.

Son Heung-Min linked up well with Harry Kane but both players just couldn’t break the tough Swansea defence despite many attempts from close range as well as set pieces. Kane almost got one in through a low shot from a free kick but the Polish goalkeeper was there to save.

Minutes later, Son came into action as well with a powerful strike which came from a wonderful build-up by Moussa Sissoko. Swansea, on the other hand, could have gone into the break with a lead had Mike van der Hoorn found the target via his head from a Tom Carroll corner.

The second half began with Spurs taking control as they looked to get a lead in the game. There was a shout for a penalty after Martin Olsson handled in the box but the referee did not see it as one. Kane and Son were once again on the attack, with Fabianski saving a shot from Son before Kane rattled the crossbar with his attempt.

In the final minutes of the game, Spurs started to pile on the pressure with corners and set pieces flowing in. Swansea almost conceded a penalty towards the end when Jordan Ayew looked to have clipped Serge Aurier inside the box.

Extra time saw Dele Alli miss a header from Eriksen, and Trippier fired wide from close to 30 yards as the referee blew the whistle. Swansea left Wembley with an important point while Spurs will lament over their failed chances.

Twitter was active as always as Tottenham were held for a frutrating draw at home. Here are some of the tweets we came across:
