What If The Unthinkable Happens At Tottenham? Here Are Three Best Replacements The Club Should Look Out For

Share

Real Madrid have recently developed a tradition of sorts, raiding Tottenham Hotspur for their best talents. Luka Modric, Gareth Bale have moved to the Spanish capital from the English capital in recent times and the eleven-time Champions League winners have no intention to stop that trend and are apparently set to make a move for Dele Alli.

The 20-year old has been a revelation since making the move from MK Dons and is smashing one record after the other in English football. Having hit a hot streak since December, Alli already has notched up 11 strikes this term, and by the looks of it will be a contender for the golden boot, when the end of the season arrives. His intelligent runs in the box, his link-up play with the likes of Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen and his knack for scoring crucial goals is what has gotten Real Madrid so interested in the midfielder and they are willing to bid up to £50m for him in the summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has blown hot and cold too frequently this season and Karim Benzema also hasn’t been in the best of form. While the likes of Isco, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are excellent players, they can’t be expected to be scoring goals on a regular basis. Hence signing Alli has become a top priority for the Merengues. While it does seem impossible that Tottenham would be willing to let him go, here we take a look at three replacements they could target, if a deal does fall through:

Marco Reus

The German has been one of the most sought after players in Europe in the past and has been linked with almost all big clubs at some point of time. However, injuries have played a spoilsport for Reus, hampering his chances till now but he still remains a wonderful player and a natural goalscorer and could be the perfect replacement for Alli.

The 27-year old has only featured 7 times this season in competitive games for BVB and has scored 4 goals and also has a whopping 6 assists to his name. Extremely versatile, Reus is comfortable on either wing or playing behind the striker and with his blistering pace and excellent technical abilities, he can turn out to be an excellent signing.

Mauricio Pochettino is building something special at Tottenham along with an exciting bunch of talented youngsters and their playing style does not differ a lot from Dortmund. That along with the chance to play in the Premier League can prove enticing for Reus.

Hakan Calhanoglu

The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent times, with a number of teams tracking his progress. The 22-year old joined Leverkusen from Hamburg for a fee of £12.5m in 2014. And since making the move, he has made 74 appearances for the club, netting 15 goals.

This season, the Turkish international has featured 20 times for his club, and has scored 7 goals and has set up 6 goals for his teammates. Having been accustomed to the high-press football tactics under Roger Schmidt, he would be a good fit into Pochettino’s philosophy.

Extremely versatile, Calhanoglu can play anywhere in the attacking line or drop into the midfield and has shown that he can be a threat from anywhere on the pitch. And his amazing abilities from dead ball situations will be a great addition to the Spurs side.

Thomas Lemar

Thomas Lemar’s arrival in Monaco last summer made few headlines, but the 21-year-old has quickly emerged as one of club’s leading players under Leonardo Jardim this season, which has seen him getting linked to a horde of big clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.

Having made 26 appearances for Monaco this season, across all competitions, Lemar has already notched up 9 goals and also has 4 assists to go with that. Another versatile operator, he can play in any position apart from centre-forward. Good on the flanks or behind the striker, Lemar is a strong runner and is known for his incisive runs and excellent finishing.

Tottenham have adopted a policy of signing young talents and Lemar fits the bill perfectly. Young, extremely talented and free-scoring, Lemar could be the exact like to like replacement for Alli, that Tottenham could look at.
