What Happens To Diego Costa, If Chelsea Managed To Sign This £56million Rated Star?

Share

The winds of change at Chelsea seem to be gathering pace, Guus Hiddink might be on his way out of the club and another manager, mostly Antonio Conte could be moving into the management role at the London side.

There have been major talks about some Serie A stars coming to Chelsea but one old boy could be on his way to Stamford Bridge. While Jose Mourinho made a huge profit selling Romelu Lukaku, the Belgian has really found form at Everton and he could be heading back to the London club if they can pay £56 million pounds according to certain reports.

The Big Belgian was sold to Everton for half that amount a few years ago but has shone thanks to regular first team football and is one of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League this season. Lukaku might have second thoughts about moving to Chelsea but with a new man coming in, it probably would lead to a side that could challenge for top honours once again.

Two strikers the way to go for Chelsea

This does leave a major question mark on the future of many Chelsea players, including Diego Costa as most teams nowadays play with just the one solitary striker but playing the pair of Costa and Lukaku against the Premier League defences would certainly put the cats amongst the pigeons.

Costa and Lukaku are two of the most physical strikers in the league and with the pace of Lukaku and the movement of Costa, they could form a deadly partnership for the side. The issue would be how to deal with two strikers, especially with the team playing with one striker for a number of seasons.

The back four and the goalkeeper don’t have much to worry about but it is the team ahead of those five that needs to have a bit of shuffling about. Chelsea have played with two midfielders in front of the back four but they would have to revert with just one player covering the defence, which would be Nemanja Matic.

Chelsea should revert to a diamond formation as they had done during the earlier days of Didier Drogba. There would need to be two wide men who do the hard work of not only attacking the opposition but also of defending and that would be the likes of Eden Hazard and Willian playing on either side of the attack.

Another big question would be about who should be playing just behind the strikers? That role could have been given to Cesc Fabregas but the Spaniard.

Costa and Lukaku have scored a total of 30 goals this season and that kind of return is not a bad one, especially considering the fact that Costa had a horrible start to the season under Jose Mourinho. If they do work together, they could be plundering goals next season but would Lukaku be willing to move back to Chelsea and would Everton hold him like they did with John Stones?

Those are the questions that need to be answered next season.
