Marouane Fellaini told a certain Belgian newspaper while he was away on international duty that he was thinking of leaving Everton in the next transfer window.
Club officials are furious with the lack of respect that Fellaini, who only signed a £75,000 per week contract last November, displayed and he was summoned by Moyes to explain himself at the club’s Finch Farm training base upon his return.
“We’ve had a chat about it and any disciplinary action is between me and him,” said club manager David Moyes. “Sometimes when players go away on international duty their egos are massaged and perhaps because they think they’re speaking to different people and they let their guard down a bit.”
“Where is he going to go? The transfer window is shut. I won’t say there is no chance (of him leaving) in the next window because everybody is available throughout the world if the offer is right. But one thing I know is the transfer window is closed, so he’s not going anywhere right now.”
“There’s three months to the next window, which is a long time. That’s all I will say on the subject.”
Fellaini has been the topic of much discussion in the past several weeks, during the summer transfer window and also since the close of the window at the beginning of September. He is thought to be a potential massive signing for one of several clubs come January.
Manchester United could use the player as the long term effectiveness of Michael Carrick is becoming more and more suspect. Additionally the health of Darren Fletcher in the long run of things is also under a microscope because he is yet to truly return to full health and is a major worry for the club.
If Fellaini moves to Old Trafford it would be a true steal for the Red Devils as he is a type of midfield weapon they are lacking as he is a true box to box midfielder that can play as effectively deep in a holding position just as in a high attacking position. His height and aerial ability is also a major boost for his potential value to another club aside from Everton.
They’ve lost Essien and Meireles. Lampard and Mikel are the only two genuine midfielders left(Romeu is still not ready to play every premier league game). And Lampard cannot play every game considering his age. So Fellaini would be that perfect midfielder Chelsea wanted all along. They never really recovered after the departure of club favorite Michael Ballack. That physical play and dominance in the air was covered up by Didier Drogba up front for all these years. But after Ballack and Drogba, Chelsea never quite had such a “demon” of a player.
Buying players like Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Marin, Ramires has added creativity, speed and sublime touches to their game but they desperately need that one man force to control the game which can be found in Fellaini.
When a player’s performance exceeds expectations, the club is not happy. Ever heard of this? This could possibly be the case with Fellaini and Everton. He will leave the club for sure. But will it be in this winter or the next summer will be the talking point. It will take a lot of effort from not only the club management but also the other players to keep him from leaving because if Everton are not in the top six in January, then Fellaini’s Everton spell could be all but over.
