Championship outfit Hull City have released Uruguayan forward Abel Hernandez. The 27-year-old’s contract was due to expire this June and it goes without saying that the Tigers will miss his presence. Now, the player is without a club but there must be a few sides waiting to snap him up for free.
Hernandez joined Hull City back in 2014, after spending quite a few years with Italian side Palermo. During his time at Hull, the player recorded 99 league appearances, scoring a total of 36 goals. Undoubtedly, his best season in a Hull shirt was during the 2015/16 campaign as Hernandez went on to score 20 league goals in 39 games.
Since then, Hernandez hasn’t found the perfect form. Over the course of the last season, he only played 10 games but managed to score eight times.
However, he boasts of incredible skills and a player like him should have no trouble finding a new side. In fact, he would be a perfect signing for any team that is struggling in the Championship.
Known for being a clinical finisher, Hernandez can play through balls extremely well. But it must be noted that he is a tad weak when it comes to retaining possession.
That said, he can be phenomenal as a striker and it will be interesting to see which club he chooses to join next. Even during his exploits in the Premier League, it was evident that his pace is more than enough to terrorize the toughest of defenders.
The Uruguayan international has played 27 times for his country, scoring 11 goals. But we won’t see him in this year’s World Cup in Russia. The player failed to secure a spot for himself and that can be attributed to the lack of game time in the Championship last season.
After all, with players like Maxi Gomez, Cristian Stuani, Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez present in the Uruguay team, it would be tough for Hernandez to get a chance even if he did receive the call-up.
Nevertheless, the player still has a bright future ahead of him. Given his height and raw talent, it goes without saying that he will find a new club. We have the entire summer transfer window ahead of us and most clubs will be pre-occupied with the World Cup as it unfolds. And until the colossal event comes to an end, suffice to say, Hernandez has nothing to worry about.
