West Ham’s summer window before the start of the 2018/19 season saw the Hammers spend a lot of money across the board. They reinforced their defence, their frontline and also added Jack Wilshere.
While the former Arsenal man has struggled with injuries, the other players they’ve added have all impressed over the course of the season.
Yet. their main issue has been inconsistency and depending far too much on Marko Arnautovic to score their goals. Sure Javier Hernandez has contributed with 7, Michail Antonio with 6 and Felipe Anderson with 9 but their dependence on a former winger turned centre-forward has really hurt the club at times.
Times need to change at the club and with an ageing midfield, barring Declan Rice, the Hammers need new additions. And with Isaac Hayden looking for a move away, the 24-year-old could be the perfect partner for Rice in the middle of the park.
The Telegraph has already reported that the Hammers are one of the clubs interested and the move makes a lot of sense.
While he did initially struggle to get a lot of game time this season, injuries and various other issues around the club changed that. Hayden has since proved to be a great option, becoming one of manager Rafael Benitez’s first names on the team-sheet.
He’s played every Premier League game since mid-December, which is around the time that Newcastle United’s performances started looking better.
But the midfielder has been actively looking for a move away since January, revealing that he wants to be much closer to his family.
Combine that with a fee around £15-20million mark, according to the Telegraph and West Ham have to win the race. Their current midfield revolves a lot around both Mark Noble and Declan Rice, with cameos from Pedro Obiang whenever he is fit.
That needs to change and with the Hammers trying to build a team good enough to challenge for a top-seven or even a top-six spot, someone like Isaac Hayden would be very useful.

Isaac Hayden is a reliable and consistent performer in midfield, with his recent performances showing that he can grow even more. For West Ham, any fee below £20million would be a brilliant use of their funds, as the 24-year-old former Arsenal player will help shore up their ageing midfield core.
