West Ham United vs Burnley – Match Preview, Team News, Stats, Predicted Lineups, And More

Share

With 15 weeks on the books on this exciting English Premier League, all the teams face a new challenge in the middle of the week when they play their 16th match of the season, so there’s not much time to rest at all after leaving it all on the field just a couple of days ago.

Several teams get to this point in a must win situation, and this is precisely the case of both sides we’re going to discuss today, as we’ll let you know just everything you need to know ahead of this week’s West Ham United against Burnley game.

Slaven Bilic’s side comes into this game sitting in the 17th position in the Premier League table after earning a very difficult point at Anfield with a 2-2 draw that could’ve gone either way, but they couldn’t manage to save their 2 to 1 lead.

Burnley, on the other hand, is currently the 13th team in the Premier League right now, and they get to London Stadium after getting a very difficult win against AFC Bournemouth at home, defeating them by 3 scores to 2 despite the cherries comeback efforts.

West Ham United and Burnley Team News

It seems like the Simone Zaza experiment is finally over and the days of the Italian forward at London Stadium are numbered, as he’s set to exit the club during this upcoming transfer window.

Cheikhou Kouyate is set to return from a groin strain, while James Collins, Sam Byram (hamstring) and Reece Oxford (ankle) are sure to miss the game and Wednesday’s match should prove too soon for Gokhan Tore (thigh). Diafra Sakho remains out until mid-January with a hamstring problem.

Andy Carroll seems fully recovered from his injury and says he’s ready to make an impact for the team once again.

Stats (Taken from FourFourTwo)

  • West Ham have won three of their four previous Premier League contests against Burnley (L1), including both games in the 2014/15 season.
  • The Clarets scored three times in their first Premier League game versus West Ham (losing 3-5) but have found the net just three times in their last three against the Hammers.
  • West Ham’s only defeat to Burnley in their last 11 home games in all competitions against them came in December 2011, losing 2-1 in the Championship. Sam Vokes scored the winner that day.
  • Burnley have never won a Premier League match in London (W0 D2 L10), scoring just six goals overall in these matches.
  • Just one of Burnley’s 17 Premier League points this season has been won away from home (6% of their total points).
  • Burnley’s only win in a midweek (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday) Premier League fixture was in their first midweek match in the division, beating Manchester United 1-0 in August 2009 (D4 L4 since).
  • Burnley have scored just one goal in their six Premier League away games this season – only Derby County (2007-08 – 0 goals) had scored fewer in their first six away games in a PL season.

Prediction

Slaven Bilic’s side can’t let more points slip through their hands at home and this is the type of game that they just can’t afford to lose, especially after that great display during most of the game against Liverpool.

Burnley has struggled mightily to score goals over most of the season and they’ve made a living out of their defence, so don’t expect the visitors to take the initiative during this matchup, and look for both Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet to have the ball at their feet for most of the 90 minutes.

We believe that the Hammers will finally get a positive result at their new home after all those early struggles, putting together a great team effort in order to get the 3 points.
