According to the Manchester Evening news, West Ham are interested in signing Manchester City’s Fabian Delph.
The England international hasn’t enjoyed the best of seasons at the Etihad after putting in some very questionable performances in the Champions League against the likes of Lyon and Tottenham Hotspur.
Young Oleksandr Zinchenko has come up leaps and bounds, joining the club as an attacking midfielder.
There is some sympathy for Delph, as he isn’t a natural left-back but had to play there in the 2017/18 season due to the injury suffered by Benjamin Mendy. He enjoyed a fantastic 2017/18 season despite that and earned a place in the first-team.
Pep Guardiola likes his full-backs to play as inverted full-backs which allows the wingers to stay wide.
Leroy Sane, who is a natural wide player was left out of most games this season which might have also affected Delph’s game as the two had formed a frightening partnerhsip on the flanks a season before.
Manuel Pellegrini knows all about Delph’s qualities, being the manager at the Etihad when the former Aston Villa man made his move.
The Hammers boss has already helped some of his former City players like Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta settle in at the London Stadium and will be hoping to do the same for Delph.
West Ham had a strange season after making a torrid start, following that up with a fantastic run and faltering at the final stages. The Hammers have ambitions of making it into European competions and Delph’s experience could help them.
The City man can go back to playing his midfield role and as we have seen recently, he can also deputise as a left-back when required.
Delph is also known for his leadership qualities which could be another bonus. West Ham already have a few senior pros in their squad and adding Delph will help them even more.

This would be a sensible choice for Delph and he can reunite with the man who got him to the Etihad from Villa Park. His versatility will also help the Hammers when injuries arise and would certainly fire them to a top-7 finish next season.
