West Ham opinion: West Ham should make a move for Ismaël Bennacer

West Ham spent very well in the summer, reinforcing key areas but despite that, Manuel Pellegrini still needs to add more. Their defence has looked a little shaky at times, and their front-line is in trouble, thanks to Marko Arnautovic.

However, a few players have stepped up, which includes Declan Rice and Felipe Anderson, with the two helping the Hammers pose somewhat of a threat in the top seven race. Things could get better for West Ham, but they’ll need reinforcements if they are to really reach a top seven place consistently.

Declan Rice’s rise has been unpredictable and it came at a great time but though he has impressed, only a few others have shined apart from him. The 21-year-old has partnered with the likes of Mark Noble and even Pedro Obiang, but only Noble has made himself a consistent presence.

Add that to Jack Wilshere’s injury issues, Carlos Sanchez’s age and Obiang’s struggles and it shows why West Ham need a new midfielder.

Ismaël Bennacer would be a brilliant addition for West Ham United. The former Arsenal youth star had a bright start to his career before joining the Gunners. It was there that things went south for the 21-year-old but a move changed that.

A move to Italy helped the Algerian midfielder find his place in the football world once again, flourishing as he proved to be a vital part of Empoli. The club returned to the Serie A and more importantly, Bennacer gained a reputation for being a very intelligent and talented footballer in the middle of the park.

While he isn’t an all-action midfielder like either Rice or even Obiang, the youngster is a lot like Jack Wilshere but without all the injury issues. The Hammers have depended on either Robert Snodgrass or even their full-backs to provide the creativity but adding Ismaël Bennacer will change that.

The 21-year-old’s ability on and off the ball will prove to be crucial and that combined with his passing, creativity and even defensive work rate shows why he will make an impact.

His stamina and tenaciousness make him good enough to be used alongside Declan Rice in the midfield as a box-to-box midfielder and it shows Bennacer’s versatility.

He arrived at Arsenal as a raw talent and has polished that at Empoli, showing why West Ham United should get him.
