Slaven Bilic suffered a 2-1 defeat in the first match of the season at Stamford Bridge. After a stellar last season, West Ham struggled to get going at the Stamford Bridge, first half they were completely dominated. Dimitri Payet started from the bench but had to eventually come off as The Hammers chased the game after an early second-half penalty goal by Hazard.
Made an excellent save to deny Ivanovic early in the first half. Didn’t have a chance against Hazard’s excellent penalty
Struggled all game to cope with the pace and trickery of Eden Hazard. very clumsy tackle to concede the penalty. substituted early in the second half, as Bilic went for the equaliser.
Scored the equaliser with an excellent finish. Struggled at the back though dealing with Hazard and Costa.
Was picked ahead of Ogbonna but wasn’t all that convincing. Made a couple of important interceptions. Needs to improve if he wants to maintain his place in the starting XI.
Had a decent debut in the absence of Cresswell. Dealt with Willian pretty well, given that most of the threat was coming down his wings.
Disappointing performance by Kouyate. Struggled to get going all game just like his fellow teammates in the centre of the pitch.
Didn’t do much to justify his inclusion in the starting XI. His passing for way under par on more than one occasion. Didn’t do much going forward, floated about without causing much trouble.
Often found himself in good positions but failed to take advantage of any of them. The captain was guilty of numerous bad touches, which then put pressure on his defence.
Had one or two exciting moments in the first half, however had to be withdrawn due to what looked like a thigh injury around the 35 minute mark.
Didn’t do much upfront, often found himself isolated alone. However was excellent at holding up the ball and getting others into the game.
