According to a report from the Chronicle, Newcastle United and West Ham have scouted Atalanta’s monstrous forward Duvan Zapata. The Colombian forward has played under Magpies boss Rafa Benitez before at Napoli and the report reveals that the Spaniard is looking for a reunion in the summer.
Salomon Rondon has been outstanding for Newcastle since his arrival on loan last summer. The Venezuelan is their top scorer but he will return to his parent club West Brom once his loan deal ends this summer.
If the Magpies fail to sign Rondon on a permanent deal, Zapata would be an ideal replacement but West Ham have their own problems up front. Marco Arnoutovic’s future is still uncertain despite signing a new deal last month.
Zapata would be a phenomenal replacement for the Austrian if he does leave and West Ham should battle hard against Newcastle to acquire his services for next season.
Zapata is currently on a season-long loan from Sampdoria and the club are looking to trigger their option to buy him at the end of the season. However, Sampdoria are open to selling him on for a bigger fee with a £38million price tag being quoted in the report.
The soon to be 28-year-old is having the best season of his life, having scored 22 goals and provided 7 assists in all competitions so far this season. His performances have given Sampdoria a massive chance of achieving European qualification as they sit just 5 points below fifth-placed AS Roma.
In the Serie A, Zapata is only two behind former Manchester United and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, with 17 goals so far and with 10 games left to play, it would be a phenomenal achievement if he can go past the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Zapata’s all-round game will be highly beneficial to West Ham as the 6ft 2in star can both hold up the play as well as make dangerous runs in behind the defenders.
His goalscoring statistic this season shows how clinical he is and would be an ideal option for a club like West Ham, who need a reliable goalscorer to achieve their ambitions.

West Ham would need a replacement for Marko Arnautovic if he does leave in the summer and Duvan Zapata is a perfect fit. His physical prowess will suit the Premier League and under Pellegrini, he can potentially be one among the best strikers in the English top-flight.
