According to reports in the Metro, Anthony Martial has been linked with a move to West Ham. The report suggests that this was a move in response to Manchester United’s bid for West Ham’s Issa Diop.
United are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, which is why the Red Devils are after the signature of Diop.
West Ham, on the other hand, have their own ambitions of making it to a European spot and will be in no position to compromise one of their stars from last season. Diop has been a colossus for the Hammers since moving to the London Stadium, last season.
Anthony Martial has had yet another inconsistent season, after going on a remarkable run during the month of October and carrying on his good form to December, but injuries forced him out of the team and he was rushed back in but it was to no avail.
The Frenchman, on his day, can be unplayable. He’s a natural dribbler, an unbelievably clinical finisher and has the strength and speed that is required in the Premier League. His inconsistencies and body-language have come into question many times though and he’s no longer a wonderkid.
Martial is 23 years old now and despite scoring over 10 goals in 3 of the last 4 years, more is expected of him because of his talent and because of the club that he currently plays for. It is with this in mind that Manchester United offered him a 5 year deal in January.
Martial will be heading into his prime in a few years and he has to capitalize on that. He’ll be tasked with getting the numbers of Mohammed Salah and Raheem Sterling very soon because he has the potential.
West Ham would be making one of the best signings of not just the summer but their history if they can somehow lure Martial in, but a deal will be very hard with the new contract in place. This is most likely a power-play from the Hammers to indicate that Diop is not for sale.
However, Martial might just be tempted with Manuel Pellegrini in charge. The current West Ham boss has overseen the growth of some great players during his many years in management but this is a move that isn’t very likely.

Martial should focus on United and the upcoming pre-season to prepare himself for what looks like a very difficult season for the Reds but West Ham shouldn’t stop pursuing the mercurial Frenchman if there is a possibility of taking him away from Old Trafford.
West ham have shown great ambition in the transfer window already by snapping up Pablo Fornals and they don’t look like they want to stop there.
