Wenger Claims He Has Already Solved Arsenal’s Defensive Midfielder Problems

Share

It’s known to everyone that Arsenal lack a swashbuckling defensive midfielder, who can control the game with aggressive tackling and well-timed interceptions. Arsenal currently have Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, who both are too slow to handle high pressure applied by good teams like Chelsea or Manchester City.

Diaby

Now it looks like Wenger has found a solution (at-least a temporary one) for this problem as he hinted that Abou Diaby would be played in a much deeper role in midfield from now on.

Abou Diaby who made his comeback against Southampton in the Capital one cup after a long injury lay-off, is actually a box-to-box player. Wenger believes Diaby has enough work rate and defensive skills to play as a defensive enforcer.

Wenger said,

“I tried to develop [Diaby] in a deeper role, I think he can do it. He can be very interesting because he has all the attributes to do it. After, he must love it as well because he’s more of an offensive-minded player,” Wenger told reporters on Tuesday.

“I try to transform it, yes because I feel because he was injured for a long time and he has the physical potential to win the challenges, to face the game will be easier for him than to play with his back to goal with the injuries he had.”

May be Diaby can play that role efficiently, but a big question that will arise in every Arsenal fans’ mind is, “Can he stay fit for the entire season?” Only time will answer that question.
