The Portuguese midfielder, 33, whose current deal was due to expire in June 2020, has made 66 appearances for Wolves since joining the club from AS Monaco in 2018 for £5m. He scored a fantastic free-kick on Saturday to guide the Wanderers to a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Having endured a slow start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, possibly due to the early rigours of the Europa League qualifying games, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team have started putting in solid displays of late in the league. And Joao Moutinho has been a catalyst in the Wanderers’ recent upturn in form.

Moutinho has been a key presence for Wolves since his arrival, winning the Fans’ Player of the Year award last season. He has maintained his form by recording seven assists in all competitions this term, including three in the Premier League.

The Portuguese midfielder, who helped his nation to Euro 2016 glory, has featured in every single game for Wolves across all competitions this season so far.

The 33-year-old is a leader on and off the pitch, a senior figure who is held in high regards by his Wolves teammates. He possesses the winning mentality, having tasted rich success in Portugal and France. Moutinho has performed admirably for Wolves whenever he has been on the pitch, acting as a role model for a host of young talents at the Molineux.

The ex-FC Porto man is a true professional with experience of the highest order and even at the ripe age of 33, he still has years left in him due to his fitness and hard work.

Due to his wealth of experience, Moutinho is a fantastic player to have in the squad and is equally a reliable player in the team. He has marshalled the troops admirably well and also has the confidence of the manager.

All in all, Wolves have done the right thing by extending Moutinho’s contract at the club until 2022. The Portugal international is a true role model whose influence on and off the pitch will be crucial for the Wanderers in the next couple of years.
