Norwich would be foolish to strengthen their relegation rivals by selling 4-assist star – Agreed?

Why Norwich should keep hold of Emiliano Buendia amidst interest

According to a report from Sky Sports, Aston Villa are interested in signing Norwich City ace Emiliano Buendia in January.

Aston Villa did bring in Jota and Trezeguet over the summer and signed Anwar El Ghazi permanently, but Dean Smith may feel he’s one forward away from massively improving his attack.

Sky Sports claim that the Villans are also interested in signing Brentford star Said Benrahma, who has scored twice in the last three games, having missed the start of the season due to injury.

However, the report acknowledges that Norwich’s Emiliano Buendia would be even more expensive than Benrahma.

Buendia, 22, has been a star for Norwich City since joining from Getafe in 2018, helping the Canaries to promotion last season with 8 goals and 12 assists.

He has bagged 4 assists this season and only Kevin De Bruyne, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Lucas Digne have created more chances than the Argentinean this season, showing what a crucial cog he is for Daniel Farke’s side.

Norwich are battling relegation and broke their seven-game winless run at the weekend by beating Everton 2-0 at the Goodison Park. The victory took them to 18th place in the table, 4 points below 15th placed Aston Villa.

One of the cornerstones of Farke’s success at Carrow Road has been the trust he has been willing to place in young players like Buendia. As far as Buendia is concerned, it has been an up and down season for the 22-year-old, just like the majority of his Norwich teammates.

The 22-year-old was at fault during Watford’s first goal in a 2-0 home defeat, which saw him get substituted in the 62nd minute.

But Buendia came on as a substitute and helped set up Dennis Srbeny’s goal against Everton, if somewhat casually, and it could turn the Canaries’ fortunes going forward.

Come what may, it doesn’t make sense for Norwich to sell their creative ace in January, certainly to a side with who they may be battling relegation.

Verdict

A classy attacking midfielder with a penchant for the unexpected, there is no doubt Buendia needs to be retained by Farke. The former Real Madrid trainee is a vital player in Farke’s set up and could go on to become one of the most talented footballers to ever play for Norwich.
