Watford opinion: Why Watford should not sell Cucho Hernandez

Watford are having an incredible campaign in the Premier League and are currently 8th, just one point away from having a chance to qualify for the Europa League next season.

Javi Gracia has worked wonders since his arrival and players like Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra have been transformed into world beaters after their failures with Europe’s elite.

Watford, along with their brilliant squad, have a couple of gems out on loan. Dodi Lukebakio has been outstanding with Fortuna Dusseldorf in the Bundesliga and has earned a ton of plaudits for his performances this season.

Another terrific youngster out on loan is 19-year-old Cucho Hernandez. The Colombian is into the final 3 months of his two-year loan deal and has been a shining light for Huesca in the La Liga.

Cucho has 20 goals and 5 assists to his name in 63 appearances for the bottom-placed club in the last two years. His performances have caught the eye of a number of big clubs including La Liga giants Valencia, who scouted him back in December.

Cucho will return to Watford after the completion of his loan spell at the end of the season and irrespective of which club comes in for him, Javi Gracia should not allow him to leave the club in the summer.

Cucho’s current deal with the Hornets ends in the summer of 2020 and his development over the past two years has proved his worth. Watford should put a new deal in place for the Colombian and secure his future at the club.

Cucho has scored 4 goals for Huesca so far this season and all of them have come against Europe’s biggest names. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia and Villareal have all been victims of the youngster, who despite scoring just 4 goals, has been a very important part of the club.

He is certainly a player capable of replacing the ageing Troy Deeney at Watford and under Javi Gracia, he could develop his game further. His pace is his biggest asset and he is a lethal finisher in front of goal.

Cucho’s style of play is very similar to his fellow countryman Carlos Bacca. The youngster’s movement and ability to get away from his marker using his close control is almost identical to Bacca and if he were to get anywhere near the level of the Villareal man, he will have a fine career in football.

Conclusion

Watford have a real gem on their hands in Cucho Hernandez and they will surely regret it if they let him leave the club next season. The Colombian has the potential to achieve great things in his career and will certainly help Watford achieve their ambitions in the coming years.

Javi Gracia should make it a point to keep the youngster at the club next season and Watford should fend off interest from other clubs.
