Watford signing this impressive 23-year-old would add some much-needed freshness to their ageing backline

Watford opinion: Should the Hornets make a move for Denis Vavro?

According to Watford Observer, Watford are very interested in making a move for Denis Vavro. The 23-year-old had a very impressive season at FC Copenhagen, playing every single league game. Not just that, the Slovakian star has been reliable, consistent and for a club like Watford, he’d be perfect.

The Hornets need reinforcements this summer despite the fact that they reached the FA Cup final and finished 11th in the Premier League. The ageing squad that manager Javi Gracia inherited hasn’t helped anyone this season and it certainly won’t do them any favours next season.

Their backline has 5 out of 11 players over the age of thirty, which includes left-back Jose Holebas and centre-back Miguel Britos. Watford needs youthful exuberance all across the field and it’s where Denis Vavro walks in.

The 23-year-old is surprisingly fast and agile for a man standing at 6 feet and 2 inches tall. Not only that, his composure on the ball combined with his defensive nuance does make him rather perfect for the Hornets. They may have finished the season in 11th but the club conceded a rather dismal 59 goals.

That is the most amongst the top-11 sides and the third worst record amongst the top-15 Premier League teams. Only Bournemouth and Burnley conceded more, which needs to change if Javi Gracia wants to have any chance of being able to thrive in the Premier League.

That might be easier said than done but with the right additions, it certainly can be done. It’s why the Hornets need to win the race for Denis Vavro, even if Serie A side Lazio are in the race.

Lazio have made it into the Europa League which does mean that they can convince Denis Vavro to join them. The lure of European football does often prove to be too much for a few players.

That could affect Watford’s chances but the Hornets proved last season that they are improving. Their 11th place finish is an improvement on anything that the club has managed since returning back to the Premier League. This includes a 13th, 17th and 14th place finishes before manager Javi Gracia joined at the start of the summer.

The former Malaga boss has turned things around and he needs to continue doing just that.

Conclusion

Watford have a lot of work that they have to do on their team before Javi Gracia can help them thrive in the Premier League.

They need to stop depending on ageing legs and replacing them with a few very talented youngsters will help. That’s where Denis Vavro will help and with time, the 23-year-old could become a big part of the club.
