Vokes Out, Gray Returns: Strongest 4-4-2 Burnley Line-Up To Face Manchester United

Predicted Burnley Lineup To Face Manchester United

Sean Dyche’s Burnley will welcome Champions League hopefuls Manchester United to Turf Moor this weekend in the Premier League.

The Clarets aren’t in the best of form and have just won one game in their last 10 league encounters. They were condemned to a 3-1 defeat by Everton last weekend and Dyche will be hoping that his team bounce back at home, where they have been extremely tough to beat. The last time the two sides met, Burnley managed to hold onto a 0-0 draw at the Old Trafford, thanks to some inspired goalkeeping by Tom Heaton.

Team News

Striker Sam Vokes is a doubt for the game due to a hamstring strain, while wide man Scott Arfield too is most likely to miss out due to a knee injury. Defender Kevin Long and midfielder Dean Marney have been ruled out for the season.

Here is how Burnley could take the field against United:

Probable Burnley Playing XI:

Formation: 4-4-2

Manager: Sean Dyche

Tom Heaton (GK)

The captain has been terrific in goal for Burnley this season and had a great outing against United, last time the two teams faced each other. He will be hoping to put in a similar display on Sunday.

Matthew Lowton (RB)

The 27-year old has been a constant fixture in the backline for the Clarets this season. He will start again at right-back against United.

Michael Keane (CB)

Has been one of the best defenders in the league this season. Will be itching to show his former side what they lost when they sold him.

Ben Mee (CB)

The Englishman has been quietly excelling in the shadows of Keane this term. Has been a mainstay at the back and will take the field once again.

Stephen Ward (LB)

At left-back, it will be 31-year old Stephen Ward. The Englishman has been one of the steadiest and most solid players for Burnley this season. He will go up against Jesse Lingard.

George Boyd (RM)

The experienced midfielder has been an ever-present on the right-flank for Burnley this season. Expect it to stay the same.

Jeff Hendrick (CM)

Strong and energetic in the middle of the park, the summer signing has been an excellent addition. He will keep his place in the starting XI.

Joey Barton (CM)

The veteran midfielder has become a key component of the midfield engine room for Burnley with his tenacity and defensive nous. He will be tasked with keeping the United midfield quiet.

Robbie Brady (LM)

With Scott Arfield doubtful for the clash with a knee injury, Robbie Brady should start the game on the left-hand side of the midfield.

Ashley Barnes (ST)

The 27-year old striker has struggled to score consistently this season and has just 5 league goals. He will need to deliver in the final stages of the campaign.

Andre Gray (ST)

And partnering Barnes up front will be Andre Gray. The 25-year old has scored 8 times this season but hasn’t found the back of the net in his last 6 league appearances. Will be hoping to rectify that.
