Leeds United vs Aston Villa Report – Aston Villa match Report

Aston Villa and their record-winning run came to a halt as they played out an ugly 1-1 draw against Leeds United away at Elland Road. Mateusz Klich and Albert Adomah were the controversial scorers of the game for either side respectively.

In an evenly-fought first half, the home side had more shots on goal and created more moments to open the scoring. Villa were always a threat on the counter though.

The encounter reached its pinnacle when Klich scored the opener in the 72nd minute.

The goal came when a Liam Cooper challenge downed Jonathan Kodjia. Tyler Roberts initially appeared to be ready to sportingly put the ball out of play. But the Welshman instead passed the ball forward Klich, catching Villa flat-footed and the scorer offside.

The referee didn’t see the offside and allowed the Leeds man to cut inside and score. This sparked great revolt from the away side and it became a physical game, rather than football.

Moments later, Villa’s Ahmed El Ghazi was wrongly sent off for an alleged elbow on Leeds striker Patrick Bamford. The TV replays showed that the latter had simulated his fall to the floor.

This really took things out of hand and what followed was even more astonishing. Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa ordered his players to let Villa score and Adomah was allowed to run through almost unchallenged to score an equaliser in the 77th minute.

The game ended with relief around, chiefly for the referees, who had a shocker of a game. A great sporting gesture by Bielsa though.

This result confirms Sheffield United’s promotion and Villa’s quest to battle in the playoffs.

Here’s how Villa fans reacted after this game:
