Vardy vs This Spanish Goal Poacher – Who Would Have Been The Better Man For Arsenal?

Arsene Wenger’s side have been in desperate need of adding a new striker to their squad, who can at least provide them with 25-30 goals a season in order to win more titles. Arsenal have been linked with a host of players over the last few transfer windows, though no new player has been signed to strengthen the attack so far. The Gunners ended yet another disappointing season and will now want to change things, so that the result next term is different.

Two big players that have been linked with the north London outfit have been Juventus forward Alvaro Morata and more recently Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, with the French manager keen in adding at least one of them to his current squad if not both.

Now the question arises who will be the better player for Arsenal? Wenger is in need of a quality player who is in good goal scoring form and the England international does seem to be the better choice. The 29 year old Leicester star helped his side win the Premier League title last season and was a regular starter for manager Claudio Ranieri.

He was scoring goals for fun and even broke the record held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, as he scored in 11 consecutive games in the top flight of English football. Vardy was also instrumental in creating chances and showed a good physical presence, along with pace and trickery, as well.

The Englishman has made 133 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 49 times in the league so far. He managed to get 24 of those last season, though just missed out on the “Golden boot” award, as compatriot Harry Kane managed to score one more.

On the other hand, Morata has not been playing regularly in Turin and has had competition from Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic, for a place in the starting eleven. He is not in the best of forms, though has a tally of 15 goals in 63 appearances in Serie A, since moving to Italy from Real Madrid back in 2014.

The Spaniard is not a proper finisher. Morata prefers to play the creative role as well at times, running with the ball from midfield and making chances for his team-mates to finish. One major advantage of signing him over Vardy would have been the fact that he is just 23 and can be a star for the future.

However, he has never played in the Premier League and might take time to settle in, something that Wenger can’t afford at this time, if he wishes to start the season well and remain in the title race. It will be interesting to see what happens now, as Vardy is still considering his options before he takes a final decision on his future.
