West Ham 1-4 Manchester City: English Champions Make Easy Work Of The Hammers

Man City continued their dominance of the Premier League today with a scintillating 4-1 victory over West Ham at the Olympic Stadium. They hit the century mark for goals scored and equalled the record for most wins in a Premier League season.

Leroy Sane opened the scoring before West Ham’s Zabaleta gifted the Cityzens their second goal by putting the ball into his own net. The Hammers then pulled one back via Aaron Cresswell but it was not enough as Jesus then added to the tally in the 52nd minute before Fernandinho scored City’s 4th in the 63rd minute.

It was all too easy for the citizens and in reality, they could’ve had many more against a lacklustre West Ham squad, who are now perilously close to being sucked back into the relegation battle.

Man City Player Ratings

Ederson – 6/10

Fair to say that Ederson didn’t have much to do and didn’t actually make a single save. In fact, the hardest work he had to do all afternoon was picking the ball out of his own net. His passing was classy as always.

Kyle Walker – 6.5/10

Walker had a bit of an off-game this afternoon and did not look like his usual self. He made a couple of good tackles but did not get forward as much as he has done for the rest of the season.

Nicolas Otamendi – 7/10

The strong centre-back didn’t really have too much to do today and wasn’t really threatened. Won what he needed to and passed the ball well.

Aymeric Laporte – 7/10

The 23-year-old also had a quiet game. West Ham didn’t prove to be a threat and the centre-back dealt with the danger when he needed to.

Nicolas Otamendi and Aymeric Laporte

Fabian Delph – 7.5/10

Delph had a good game for the cityzens. He got forward well and his passing was exquisite. He also defended well when called upon.

Kevin De Bruyne – 7.5/10

Had a good game in the middle of the park but didn’t produce any moments of his trademark magic today. Instead, he shined in the more defensive aspects, breaking up the play and starting off the attacks well.

Fernandinho – 8.5/10

The central midfielder put in the complete performance. He tackled well, broke up the play and also looked dangerous when going forward, taking his goal well. He seemed to be everywhere today.

Ilkay Gundogan – 7/10

Gundogan did not have the best of games today. He made a couple of good tackles but was otherwise anonymous.

Raheem Sterling – 9/10

Looked threatening the whole game and really should’ve got on the scoresheet. However, with a hat-trick of assists, it is hard to criticise the forward’s performance too much! Absolute quality.

Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane – 8/10

Sane had a good game, ran at defenders and had them on toast for most of the game and also grabbed a good goal.

Gabriel Jesus – 9/10

Jesus has had an interesting season for Man City but today’s game proved how good he can be when he’s on his game. Scored a good goal and was an absolute handful for the West Ham defence.

Substitutes

Danilo – 7/10

Replaced Walker in the 60th minute. Looked threatening down the right-hand side and added an attacking dimension to the Man City defence.

Yaya Toure – 6.5/10

Came on in the 70th minute to replace Gundogan. Didn’t do anything of note.

Lukas Nmecha – 6/10

Came on in the 79th minute to make his Manchester City debut.
