Two Transfers That Sheffield United Are Expected To Complete This Summer

The whole reason for Sheffield United’s impressive promotion to the Championship as League One winners was last summer’s fantastic crop of signings.

Simon Moore, James Wilson, Jake Wright, John Fleck, Mark Duffy and others were all signed on permanent deals last year. Fans no doubt are in heaven having watched their side rack up 100 points, lift the League One trophy and then watch city rivals, Sheffield Wednesday fail to make it up to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Budget allowing, United may even be in full competition with the Owls for the same players over the summer. However, Sheffield United could look to sign the following two players:

Nick Blackman (Derby County)

Blackman joined Derby County in January 2016 for £2.5million from Reading but has not hit the heights at Pride Park and looks to be one of those players Gary Rowett loves to have.

Blackman does not seem incredibly popular with Derby fans at present and is unlikely to want to stay and battle for a place over the remaining two years of his contract. Leaving Derby looks possible now and despite interest from his other former club Reading, returning to Sheffield United is a much more likely move and it is something which would be mutually beneficial, with the winger better than anything the Blades have in their squad currently.

Ben Reeves (free agent)

Northern Ireland international Reeves is out of contract now at MK Dons and is thought to be considering his future after 4 years at the club. Reeves scored 10 goals for Dons last term, 2nd only to Kieran Agard in the top scorer charts at the club, and is now free to talk to other clubs. If Sheffield United come calling, it would be too hard for Reeves to resist.

The 25-year-old Reeves has had fleeting experience in the Championship before, having made 2 appearances at this level for Southampton back in 2011 and a further 18 for MK Dons in the 2015/16 campaign. Despite playing in deep positions, Reeves managed 21 goals in 92 games at League One level and would certainly add something to the Blades line-up.

Given that only relatively minimal compensation will be needed to secure his signature, I would be surprised if Sheffield United didn’t pounce to sign the former Southend man very soon and begin, what promises to be a busy summer of recruitment again at Bramall Lane.
