Two Reported Thomas Christiansen Targets That Leeds United Must Avoid Signing This January Window

As is always the case, plenty of players have been linked with Leeds United over the past few weeks as we head towards what is the crazy season of the January transfer window.  Surely though, not all of those chased by the club would be successes in the Championship.

Josh Vela and Joe Bryan have been linked and would all complement this squad very well. However, there are some characters I’d be wary of if I were a Leeds United fan, for various reasons. Here are just two of them:

Jack Colback (Newcastle United)

Here’s the context; Colback was told in good faith by Rafael Benitez that he simply wasn’t needed this season and that he was free to leave. Colback took it upon himself to say a move was not best and refused to look for a new club.

From there, Benitez told him he would have to train with the youth squad as there were too many midfielders in the main group; however, Colback refused and did not take part in a practice game as instructed. Given what happened to both Sunderland and Newcastle in the past, it would seem Colback is simply not regarded as a Premier League player and, for whatever reason, is going backwards. Leeds have been linked with Colback and I would advise caution against Leeds taking him on and look to the likes of Vela instead.

Danny Ings (Liverpool)

Ings has been mentioned in the same breath as Leeds for a number of months now, but despite a tip-top past reputation and having seemingly recovered from long-term injury, Ings would appear to be regressing as well and cannot guarantee Leeds the sort of goals that he brought to Burnley when he last played in this league.

Don’t get me wrong; Ings needs another chance somewhere and needs an exit from Liverpool, where he has no hope of challenging Firmino, Salah, Coutinho and the likes on a level playing field. He cannot guarantee his fitness either, having had so many problems.

Leeds could get lucky if they sign Ings of course; the best case scenario is that he a) stays fit and b) finds the same level of form as he did when he scored 20 Championship goals in 40 games for Burnley. However, there are too many variables to make this deal worthwhile.
