Two Quality Managers Burnley Could Look To Sign If Sean Dyche Leaves Including The Sheffield United Boss

Two Managers That Burnley Should Look To Sign If Sean Dyche Takes Over At Everton

Sean Dyche seems to be the most wanted manager in the Premier League at the moment. The Burnley boss was heavily linked with the vacancy at Leicester City last week, after Craig Shakespeare was shown the door by the Foxes.

And now, with Everton having fired Ronald Koeman following their 5-2 defeat to Arsenal this past weekend, Dyche has reportedly emerged as the favourite to take up the job at Goodison Park.

The 46-year old helped Burnley stay up in the Premier League with relative ease last season and they are currently at 8th place in the table, with wins over the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, while drawing difficult away games against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking of the speculations, the manager was coy (as quoted by Daily Mail):

“It’s very flattering. I’ve been linked with other situations before. I just keep getting on with my job until things change. It’s out of my hands. I’m just getting on with what I do.”

While he does have a very good project going on at the Turf Moor, when a club of the stature of Everton comes calling, irrespective of their current struggles, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Dyche decide to make the step up. There has been no concrete development as of yet, but if the Burnley boss decides to move, here are three replacements that the Clarets could look to bring in to replace the him:

Chris Wilder

The 50-year old Sheffield United manager is making huge waves in the English second division, having led the Blades to 3rd place in the Championship standings, after 13 games into the season.

Wilder led United back to the English second tier, winning the League One title last season and has continued his good work after promotion, having led the club to victories over the likes of Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers and Reading already. The Englishman might not have a decorated CV, but he has done solid work at each club he has been, be it at Oxford United, Northampton Town or Sheffield United.

Since taking over at the Bramall Lane in May 2016, Wilder’s win percentage reads a highly impressive 62.7%, with 42 wins out of 67 games (D14, L11). His sides are known for their toughness and have that grit and determination about themselves. Sounds a bit like Burnley?

Paul Lambert

The 48-year old former Aston Villa and Norwich City boss is out of a job after Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers decided to part company with him at the end of last season and has recently been linked with the vacant Scotland national team job.

Lambert did a more than decent job during his time in-charge of Norwich City as he helped them stay up in the Premier League, after having led them to the top flight from the third tier in the space of two years. Having taken over at Aston Villa ahead of the 2012-13 campaign, Lambert helped them stay afloat in the top flight for three seasons, before parting ways in 2015.

His subsequent spells with Blackburn Rovers and Wolves haven’t exactly panned out that well, but he is someone who has proven himself as a manager in the Premier League. He has shown himself to be a smart operator in the transfer market and is someone who is tactically astute, bringing a good style of play to the table. And hence, if Dyche does leave, Burnley should consider looking at the former Borussia Dortmund and Celtic star.
