Two Players Sam Allardyce Could Bring To Everton In January

Everton may have spent big over the summer but their performances in the new season have been anything but encouraging. They were sloppy, wasteful and failed to score goals, which cost them a lot of points. They were even teetering on the brink of relegation danger for quite some time. That eventually led to the sacking of Ronald Koeman. David Unsworth was appointed as the caretaker manager and he managed to bring the club out of trouble for the time being. Sitting at 13th spot in the league table, Everton may seem safe but their troubles are far from being over.

In fact, their new manager Sam Allardyce truly has his work cut out. Bringing them out of relegation danger was one thing but now to re-build and bring the team back to full-strength will be quite tough. Former manager Koeman did bring in a lot of players over the summer but most of them have failed to deliver results. With the January window coming up, Allardyce will be faced with a lot of important decisions to make with regard to the team.

He will have to let some players go to make room for new faces. Moreover, the Toffees could use reinforcements in all three areas of the team – attack, midfield and defence. To be honest, the Toffees need an attacker more than anything else. Their goal-scoring drought needs to come to an end if they are to break out of this slump and progress further. Hence, here are 2 players Allardyce could target in January.

Michy Batshuayi

Michy Batshuayi – Chelsea

Batshuayi joined Chelsea in 2016 but he has found regular first-team appearances difficult to come by ever since. Although he boasts of a lot of talent which often comes to the fore during his cameo appearances, Antonio Conte seems to prefer deploying other players ahead of him. Even when the Blues won the title last season, Batshuayi hardly made any starts and was largely used as a substitute.

Diego Costa stood in his way last term and this time, its Alvaro Morata. With the situation unlikely to improve at Chelsea, Batshuayi could look to move to Everton to fill the void left behind by Romelu Lukaku.

Lamine Kone – Sunderland

Kone has worked with Allardyce before, which could prompt the manager to consider a move for the centre-back. Defensive strength also needs to be boosted in January and for that, Kone seems like a good option considering the way he played under Allardyce. Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams have held up the fort decently but if the club are to achieve greater things, they need a player like Kone at the back.
